![]() ![]() I dragged out a shortcut onto the desktop to the executable onĮvery new platform. Installed Quark directory to a new location (anywhere) on each new Some point, I discovered it was truly portable and simply copied the My original install required burning a floppy (good luck (where it performed better than Vista) and on XP back at least to 98 or As a matter of fact I am using Quark 4.1 on Window 7, I used it on So if you need the icons to reappear, besides upgrading to QuarkXPress 9 there's always the workaround using the XTensions Manager in QuarkXPress 8.I continue to be amazed that no body has found THE elegant solution Iĭid. However, that's no promise and wishful thinking from my side. That said and as we worked closely with Apple, there's a chance that an update to OS X Lion will make the icons reappear in QuarkXPress 8 under OS X Lion. We are constantly improving QuarkXPress 9 and adding additional features in 9.x releases and want to make sure QuarkXPress supports Mountain Lion soon after it is released. Like every developer we have limited resources and we need to decide where to assign them. ![]() Please allow me to explain a bit about the background of our decision. Please accept our apologies if the email didn't reach you. And we did sent an email to all registered users of QuarkXPress 9 to warn you about the potential issue of updating to 10.7.3 as soon as we got confirmation about the problem. That means that if you need an officially supported version of QuarkXPress on OS X Lion, you need to use QuarkXPress 9 please. However as some of you already stated we also made it clear from the beginning that we will not support Version 8 under Lion, running such combination is at your own responsibility. Should there be any problem, please contact me or any of my colleagues in Customer Service, we are happy to make it work.Ībout QuarkXPress 8 and OS X Lion: We didn't put anything into QuarkXPress 8 to make it stop working under OS X Lion. I am sure you understand that we do not keep personalized links forever, however - as stated - of course you do not need to purchase again, you can use the validation code you have. This will make the Test Drive a full version. If yes, then the validation code for QuarkXPress 9 that we sent you is still valid and you can just download a Test Drive of QuarkXPress 9 and enter the validation code there. I am not sure what promotion you participated in, was it "buy 8 get 9 for free"? It looks like they are using the old software upgrade trick by not supporting earlier versions but I'm ****** if I am going to pay twice! ![]() There was no indication at the time that this was a time limited offer. However, as I needed a new mac it was some time before I clicked on the email link to avail of Qk 9 only to find that the offer was now out of date. I paid for an upgrade offer from Qk7 to Qk9 via Qk8. There was a timely warning on the Quark forum, but how many Quark users check there daily? Seeing that on the horizon, some method should have been used to notify registered Quark users (perhaps like the email you got of the upgrade to 9 offer) to stay away from 10.7.3. What is annoying is that there were comments on the Quark forums that one developer preview of 10.7.3 worked but a subsequent version, which proved to be the release version, broke both 8 and 9. I don't believe QuickTime was ever fixed for TurboTax Intuit had to come up with a patched version of TurboTax instead to beat the filing deadline. The only solution was to regress to the earlier version of QuickTime, which the installer wouldn't allow, and until a way could be found to force the installation, TurboTax, but more importantly, World of Warcraft (□) were dead in the water. An example of that was when Apple released a version of QuickTime during tax time in 2007 and TurboTax stopped working because it needed something in QuickTime to function. I have no idea what about 10.7.3 broke those icons but considering that the Quark interface seems like a one-of-a-kind thing in the Mac world, it could rely on some service in the OS that was removed, like Rosetta ending with Snow Leopard, but not nearly as significant. Thanks for the comments but I really doubt that the disappearance of a few icons constitutes a major re-write of the program. ![]()
